    How To Buy Online Websites

Posted on September 15, 2009, 7:42 am, by Brian Armstrong, under Traffic Generation.

So, you know by now that you can generate traffic to a website by paying for it with advertising, for instance through pay-per-click or something like banner ads, or any number of pay per visitor advertising. The other option is spending the time to get your website ranked in the search engines. Either of these methods requires time and or money. Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t maximize your return on either time or money investment by leveraging different types of media, but you’re still exchanging time or money for visitors.

There is an alternative method of generating visitors to your site and that is to buy a site with existing visitors and place your offer in front of the customers or simply place ads or drive traffic back to your original site. There are plenty of ways to “redirect” traffic back to your site once you own that new site. What it really depends on is how much this new site costs and making estimates of how many people or visitors to that new site will end up back on your original website.

If you know the value of each visitor to the site then you’ll be able to determine how much value the purchase of a new site will represent as far as whether or not that site is worth buying. Visitors to your site are either targeted or non-targeted traffic. If you purchase a site that is closely related to yours, visitors that you can redirect to your original site would be targeted traffic.

Visitors that happen upon your site some other way would be un-targeted traffic and represent a less likely prospect for purchasing your goods or services. These un-targeted visitors can still be beneficial, but will typically represent a much smaller conversion percentage.

Once you know how much each visitor to your site is worth, you’ll know what you can pay for each visitor if you decide to grow your business through pay-per-click or some other source. If you pay for traffic, you’ll most likely be focusing on that targeted traffic demographic unless you happen to have a product that speaks to a very large audience (such as weight loss).

One of the best websites where you can go to see websites for sale is sitepoint.com. There are dozens of other sites where people post a website for sale. Depending on the niche you’re going after, you’ll be able to find many sites that will be affordable and provide just what you need. eBay may be another great option for finding website that you can purchase. Remember though that people will often sell brand new websites with no traffic at all. If you are looking for a website to buy for traffic, make sure you are getting a website from someone that has good feedback as a seller and documented traffic.

Make sure you’re doing your research before you commit to buy a website. Some of the things you should consider are how much traffic does this site get? How long has the site been up? Does the site have PageRank? There are dozens of things that could influence the value of the site. Just make sure that before you buy a site, you know about it and you have a plan for what to do with it.

Buying an existing website is an excellent way to leverage other people’s work. There are several great sources to help you find websites to purchase, not only for supporting your original site you’re trying to get traffic for, but also for using other people sites to either fix up and resell or use as a source of generating new revenue.
