Are You Working Hard On Old Worthless Keywords?

Posted on September 26, 2009, 4:28 am, by Peters Q Framptowski, under SEO & Google Marketing.

Keywords aren’t just any old words. If you don’t know what a keyword is, or a keyword phrase, and you’re trying to make money online, then you’d better sit back and take notes. Keywords are words that search engine users type in to a search engine to find your site. If your page is not optimized for the keywords relating to your site, then the chances of people who are interested in your goods or services finding your website is slim to none. And Slim has left town!

Now that you know how important keywords are for your ability to make money online, why wouldn’t you check on them every so often to make sure they’re still bringing in the money? Most people would think that this would be a given, but its not. A lot of affiliate marketers think that once they rank well for one keyword, that keyword will always bring them money. This isn’t the case and having a mindset like that will cost you a lot of money down the road.

The time that any of us have to work on our websites is valuable. Continuing to optimize your website for keywords that aren’t used any long will make it difficult for you to make money. Let’s say you had a website about gas guzzling SUV’s. Although once popular, nowadays the attention has turned to compact, fuel efficient cars. Fewer people are searching for gas hogging vehicles these days.

extra cash. For example, before MySpace came about, do you think anyone was optimizing their sites for MySpace Layouts? By checking your keywords every month or so and getting rod of the ones not making you money and adding new ones that are hot, you’ll go a long ways in making money in this business.

Also, some niches just go away while other niches change. It just makes good business sense to cull these old, non producing keywords out of your list. It just doesn’t pay to keep non profitable keywords around. You’ll just waste time and money by continually optimizing pages for them.

To be consistently profitable, you’ll need to ever watchful over your keyword list, getting rid of ones that are no longer searched for and replacing them with hot new keywords everyone is using. Don’t throw good money after bad. Let other people optimize their pages for old keywords that aren’t being searched for any longer. Watch your keyword list and be the one picking the low hanging fruit
