Can SEO Companies Build Natural Links For You?

Posted on October 7, 2009, 3:38 am, by Yasir Y Khan, under SEO & Google Marketing.

I was once again doing my due diligence on different SEO services out there and one sentence kept on grabbing my attention on multiple websites.

The sentence which grabbed my attention was: We provide absolutely natural link building at very affordable prices!

Reading this sentence amused me. It even made me laugh. It made me think Isnt this SEO company wrongly categorizing paid links as natural links and misguiding the customer?

If you do not know what natural links are, here is a definition taken from a well-known internet resource:

A natural link is a link to a website or webpage that was freely given, that is, a user linked to it because he found it useful and relevant, without intervention or coercion from the owner of the website. Natural links are often the result of having good, relevant, accurate content.

Now, if you think about the fact that SEO companies are paid to do link building, you can easily come to the conclusion that natural links is one of the farthest things they specialize in. Ironically, a lot of customers just do not understand that SEO companies just cannot provide you with natural links.

I guess the word natural removes that fear and skepticism in the mind of the customers. But the fact remains that 90% of the total links built over the web are not natural links. The mass majority of the links built are done artificially to increase link popularity and SERPs.

So if any SEO company tells you that they will build 100% natural links for you, you should be a little careful around them.

Natural links can only be built if your website is unique and authoritative, or if you rank in the first 3 places for your keyword in the search engines. Natural links are ones built by people who have no incentive to link to you other than the fact that your resource is useful.

Un-natural link building is not necessarily bad, unless you try your get to get penalized. There are countless people who build paid links in order to rank high.
