OK, you have built your site and published it online, that’s great! But now you need to figure out how you are going to get traffic to your website. If nobody knows your website is online then they can’t find your site. And if no one can find your site you can’t expect to make any sales. Using proven SEO techniques you can get your website listed in the search engines and help get you the traffic you need. Follow the tips below for basic SEO strategies.

On Site SEO Now it is time to start tweaking your site to make sure that it is search engine friendly. When a search engine crawls your site, you want to be sure that it can read all the text very easily, this will help in your ranking. Also no matter how much content you have on your site, you need to be sure that the main keywords you want to be listed for in the search engines are within your site. Each keyword should be placed once in every paragraph. So if you are trying to target people looking to buy calculators, you should make sure that “buy calculators” is written in your site not only that but other keyword that also fit that category, like “adding machines” or “cheap calculators” This will help your search engine ranking.

Building Links The building of backlinks to your website is crucial in your attempt to get search engine traffic. The more links you have to your site, from other websites will help you get higher search engine results for your keyword’s. Again if you are selling adding machines, use anchor text in your links, so instead of creating a link that says “Click Here” create a link that says “Adding Machines” This will help you get better ranking when someone searches for Adding Machines.

Targeting Your Traffic When leaving your link on sites be sure to leave it on sites where you may find people interested in your products. So if you are selling calculators or adding machines you should leave your link in a college chat room or a forum where accountant frequent. This will give you targeted traffic from the links themselves.

Offline Marketing While you are selling products online, you can still get a lot of people to your site by advertising in newspapers and placing fryers in grocery stores.

Use a Site map Make sure to put a sitemap on your website. This will help the search engines index every page of your website. Site maps will make it easier for the search engines to crawl every page.

Write Your Website For Search Bots The search engines send bots to your site to read what your site is about. However the bots can only read the text on your site, so if your entire site is flash animation, banners and JavaScript, the search engines won’t give your site that much credit. But if your site is mainly text, the search engines will love you.

Are You Using Frames If you are using frames in your site, STOP now. Rebuild your site without frames. For the most part if a crawler comes to your site and it has frames it may very well simply not read your site and move on.

Spamming This should come as no surprise, but don’t spam other sites with your links. Meaning, don’t create thousands of links with the keyword “calculators” and no other keyword’s. This could cause some of the search engines to ban your site in the results. You should use 3 to 5 anchor text keywords in your links.

Lastly don’t forget to submit your website to search engines, directories and link pages that have the same type of content as your site. And don’t use the same keyword for each link, use between 3 and 5 keywords for starting off.
