How Does Yahoo Compare To Bing?
Although many feel that the decline in popularity of search engines is due to Bing, the new search engine from Microsoft, it appears that there is more to it then that. In December of 2009, Yahoo was at 22% for customer searches; in January of 2010 it had decreased to 17%. Is this something that Bing can really be responsible for?
For several years Yahoo has followed far behind the heading search engine, Google. While some are knowledgeable of this fact, what they’re not knowledgeable of is that this has a lot to do with the visual aspect of their home page, than it does with the actual search results that are acquired. A lot of search engines frequently neglect there search page, but this cab be the cause that a few are successful and others bomb.
With Google and Bing you are getting a very simplified home page. There is enough information for users to look at, however it is not so overwhelming that the customer are not sure where to look or what to do. This is the main contributor to the progressing success of Bing over the last few months. There home page is very simple, and upon a side by side comparison of Google you will find that they are both very similar.
The imagery is simple and relevant to world happenings and does not create chaos on either page. Although Bing uses some standard links that Google does not they are to the side and do not interfere with the search box at all. Yahoo on the other hand, just like AOL who also did not really succeed, offers a multitude of links and pictures that can be overwhelming to users. Even though with Yahoo you can design your own page, many of the items still clutter the look of the search page.
Perhaps it is too late for Yahoo, or perhaps simplifying their homepage will help them gain some new business. However you look at it, it does seem that a simpler, more user friendly page does better for a search engine overall. And if you think about it when you are searching for something you really don’t need a bunch of miscellaneous links to interfere and distract you from what you are really looking for, so it really does make sense.

I am going to be ultra blunt here… and this is purely my opinion but is partly based no anecdotal evidence. Here goes:
YAHOO employs RETARDS.
That’s pretty much why they are slipping in some critical areas. However, in saying that they have been making some winning moves recently such as teaming up with Bing, and signing up to Twitter feeds, and also their progress with display media.
But seriously man, those guys have got to get an attitude check.
