If you wish to do well in Internet marketing, you need to be savvy with keyword research. While there are many ways to market out there, knowing the right keywords is essential to any plan. Keywords are what makes internet marketing go. First find your target market or niche to get started. Once you have the niche in hand, and then start the research process. You will need a specific software tool that does research for internet keywords. Many people usually utilize the Google Adwords Keyword Suggestion Tool. But everyone uses these keywords, so while it is good to use them, you should also use other tools in order to get what you need like the Keyword Elite or Micro Niche Finder. This is partially due to the fact these third party tools will produce keywords that the Google one will not. You can use these tools to see just how much competition each keyword has on the search engines as well as who is competing. You’ll get all the info you need to know if you’d be able to rank the site on the first page of Google.

When your niche is selected and the keyword research tool is available, the researching shouldn’t really take that long. In order to demonstrate how keyword research is properly done, we will look at “weight loss” as a sample in this article. Your niche would be considered “weight loss” if you are trying to sell a “weight loss ebook”. All you need to do is enter “roofing repair” into the software you have chosen for your research and then search for other related keywords. In return, you will receive a register of keywords relevant to “weight loss”. The keywords you select from this list should be buying keywords. In other words, if you go for any general keywords, then it wouldn’t really serve the purpose. Your keywords should reflect what you are selling; in this case, your keyword should include information about a weight loss solution. The more finely tuned your keywords are the less likely you’ll be to waste your time and marketing dollars on people who are just looking for DIY information and not repair services themselves. Your goal is to sell your product or services, not just be an informational service.

After your research, save the list of these buying keywords that in a text file. This process may take a bit of time, but take each of the results from the previous search and re-enter them into the tool again. The results from this process will be a list of long tail keywords. It is easier to get better rankings through long tail keywords than the shorter ones. A simply “acne cream” keyword would be considered short. But having something like “cost effective ways to treat acne” would be a long tailed keyword. Because of how wide spread the term “acne treatment” is used, getting high in the rankings can be quite a chore. As you continue to use the tool to research keywords, you may end up with some long tail keyword that you wouldn’t have gotten through Google Adwords.

When you are attempting to achieve the highest search engine rankings, keyword research is the most critical step in the process. There are a lot of people who choose to ignore this vital step and then end up wasting a bunch of time and hard work with short tail keywords.

Taking the time to plan out a long tail keyword strategy can help you land on the front page of any major search engine. Apart from this, it also adds a lot of value to the site by getting visitors who are interested in what you’re offering and are more likely to convert into a sale or a lead. So remember long tail keywords if you are after a higher ranking from the search engines that will result in more customers making their way to your site.
